1. Overview

Newsie.tech ("Newsie," "we," "us," or "our") operates a DeFi safety intelligence platform at https://newsie.tech. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website and services. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices. By using Newsie, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you register for an account, we collect your email address, display name, and a securely hashed version of your password (we never store plaintext passwords). If you subscribe to a paid plan, payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe -- we do not store your credit card number, CVC, or full billing details on our servers.

2.2 Usage Data

We automatically collect information about how you interact with the platform, including: protocol addresses or URLs you submit for analysis, safety scores and analysis results you view, pages visited and features used, timestamps and session duration, and device type, browser, and operating system. This data is used to improve our services and is processed through Vercel Analytics.

2.3 Blockchain Data

When you submit a contract address or protocol for analysis, we query publicly available blockchain data through third-party APIs (DeFiLlama, GoPlusLabs, block explorers). This data is inherently public on-chain and is not considered personal information. We do not require you to connect a wallet or share your private keys.

2.4 Cookies and Tracking

We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. We use Vercel Analytics for anonymized usage metrics. We do not use advertising trackers, sell your data to advertisers, or participate in cross-site tracking. You can disable non-essential cookies through your browser settings.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Newsie platform and safety analysis features
  • Process your account registration and manage your subscription
  • Generate safety scores, risk assessments, and AI-powered explanations
  • Store score history to track protocol safety trends over time
  • Send you critical security alerts (e.g., exploit warnings for protocols you have analyzed)
  • Improve our scoring methodology and AI models based on aggregated, anonymized usage patterns
  • Respond to your support requests and communications
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service

4. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service Providers (Subprocessors): We use third-party services to operate our platform. See our Subprocessors page for a complete list. Each provider is contractually obligated to protect your data.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
  • Business Transfers: If Newsie is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your data is subject to a different privacy policy.
  • Aggregated Data: We may share anonymized, aggregated statistics (e.g., 'average safety score across 500 protocols analyzed this week') that cannot identify any individual user.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance purposes. Analysis history and score records are retained in anonymized form to maintain protocol safety trend data. You can request data export or deletion at any time by contacting privacy@newsie.tech.

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information:

  • All passwords are hashed with bcrypt before storage
  • All data in transit is encrypted via TLS 1.3
  • Database access is restricted via connection pooling and parameterized queries to prevent SQL injection
  • Authentication uses secure HTTP-only session cookies
  • API rate limiting protects against abuse
  • Infrastructure is hosted on Vercel with SOC 2 Type II compliance

7. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction: Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Deletion: Request that we delete your personal data
  • Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Objection: Object to processing of your data for certain purposes
  • Withdrawal of Consent: Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time

8. International Data Transfers

Newsie is operated from India and our infrastructure is hosted on Vercel's global edge network (primarily US regions). If you access our services from outside these regions, your information may be transferred to and processed in countries with different data protection laws. By using Newsie, you consent to such transfers. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place through our service providers' data processing agreements.

9. Children's Privacy

Newsie is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that a child under 18 has provided us with personal data, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the 'Last Updated' date. For significant changes, we will send an email notification to registered users. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

11. Contact Us
